AromatherapyAromatherapy is a holistic treatment that promotes wellbeing. It combines the t art of blending and application of essential plant oils to increase and balance internal vitality. Aromatherapy has its roots in the most ancient healing practices as many of the plants from which we derive essential oils and techniques have been used for thousands of years. Today Aromatherapy provides us with a contemporary version of an ancient healing art. Aromatherapy is based on the idea that through the strengthening of the body's defence mechanisms we can avert illness. Aromatherapy helps to restore the harmony between body and mind, a harmony that is sometimes hard to maintain and often compromised by the stresses of modern life. Aromatherapy can positively affect the way we look, feel and think. We can all improve our well being by either receiving or using aromatherapy to enhance our life. Essential OilsEssential oils come from the tiny oil glands or sacs found in almost all plants. They can be found in petal, flowers, leaves, twigs, grasses, seeds, fruit, bark, roots or resin. All essential oils are phyto - oestrogen’s, vegetable hormones and similar in composition to their human counterparts. They each have unique healing properties that help to improve wellbeing by enhancing internal life-force. Often therapeutic values derived from different plants of the same species can vary enormously, affected by factors such as the altitude, nutrients in the soil, time of harvest and the underlying energy of the environment. Essential oils are expensive to produce, some, due to the intensity of the process and the quantity required to produce the oil, Approximately 1000kg of rose petals to make 1kg of oil, 6 tones of orange blossom to produce 1kg of Neroli, and 4 million jasmine flowers to produce 1kg of jasmine absolute. Essential oils enter the body via two routes: through the nose by inhalation or by absorption through the skin. Essential oils can be used in bathing, vaporising, inhaling and massage.
